THERE IS NO US is self-described as a social movement to expose the failure of the human race. Within recent years, their plight has never been more actual as the world has faced civil unrest, extreme social and political divide and chaotic disruption forced upon itself due a global pandemic which is still looming. Taking inspiration from despair while being forced to remain static due to the halt of live events, THERE IS NO US poured their fear, anger and frustrations into their third EP, Title. The EP was produced by Grammy-nominated producer Sean Beaven, whose past credits include Nine Inch Nails, Guns N' Roses and A Perfect Circle—all of which have been long-time sources of inspiration for THERE IS NO US.
"We're just as frustrated as the rest of the world but instead of just watching the world destroy itself we are using art to channel our anger," expressed vocalist Jim Louvau. "We've never lived in such uncertain times, trust in our leaders has all but diminished, people represent politics like sports teams, science is questioned, and everyone seems to have a personal agenda to fit their beliefs. We are basically living in what seems like a fictitious episode of The Twilight Zone."
"This material is a breath of fresh air, something that is exciting, dangerous and eye opening," continues Louvau. "We were angry, scared, pissed and terrified at what the future would hold for humans. We piled that frustration into a year and a half of writing our most rousing material yet."
Formed in Phoenix, AZ in early 2015 as part of an experimental recording session between Louvau and guitarist Andy Gerold (ex-Marilyn Manson, Ashes Divide), THERE IS NO US released their debut EP Farewell To Humanity in September 2015 followed by their debut live performance opening for Letlive in Las Vegas. The band quickly gained recognition in the underground industrial and metal scene as they were seen sharing stages the with acts including The Dillinger Escape Plan, In Flames, Drowning Pool, Stabbing Westward and Tremonti. They released a second EP, Generation of Failure, in 2017 with producer Terry Date (Deftones, Slipknot, Korn) before putting the band on pause to focus on their families and other professional endeavors.
Louvau continued to build on his successful career in photography which had received while continuing to expand on developing his creativity for video production following directing two of THERE IS NO US' music videos ("Fame Whore" and "The Proposal" In 2019, Louvau's two-year old daughter, Mars, was diagnosed with Leukemia which forced him to shut down artistically and focus solely on her treatment. Following a long and strenuous road to recovery, as things started looking up Louvau's passion for music returned which he poured into developing his creative studio partner Tony Aguilera and has since directed videos for Jerry Cantrell, Killer Be Killed, Exodus and Greg Puciato's critically acclaimed documentary, Fuck Content.
Louvau and Gerold rejoined forces in 2020 following the aftermath of recent events and the beginning of the global pandemic and used the real-time experience to begin writing new material. THERE IS NO US is further rounded out by guitarist Jared Bakin, bassist Eddie Lopez and live drummer Elias Malin (Kesha, Hollywood Undead, Noah Cyrus).
